A man was shot and injured in his vehicle Thursday evening in Lehigh Acres. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested 33-year-old Rocco Ruzzo in connection with the shooting. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to reports of a shooting outside a home in the 800 block of Meadow Road around 7 p.m. According to LCSO, the victim was in the car when he was shot. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators learned that the victim and another adult were driving along Meadow Road when they realized the passenger door was not closed. Officials said the victims stopped to fix the passenger door when Ruzzo arrived. Who was in front of the house and shot at the vehicle with a gun. It struck the vehicle several times on the driver’s side, injuring the victim, who fled the area and called the sheriff’s office. Witnesses said they were having dinner with Ruzzo when they had repeated problems with a white sedan driving recklessly down the street. According to LCSO, witnesses observed Ruzzo confronting the people in the vehicle, which led to a fight. The residents threw a drink at the family. An hour later, the same white car drove slowly past the house again, and Ruzzo told witnesses he saw the vehicle’s occupants pointing a gun at the assembled family. LCSO said, according to witnesses, the victim’s vehicle drove away from the home. Ruzzo claimed he fired at the vehicle in self-defense. Investigators found ten gun casings with broken glass, suggesting damage to the victim’s vehicle. No firearms, weapons or spent shell casings were found during a search of the victim’s vehicle. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released. Ruzzo was arrested on charges of shooting in an occupied conveyance and aggravated assault, both with deadly weapons.
