A man’s security video shows a car colliding with a Sheboygan police car

SHEBOYGAN – Surveillance video captures the moment a car evading police collides with a Sheboygan police car.

It happened just after 8 p.m. Sunday night on the north side of Sheboygan.

Michael Xiong and his family were preparing to go to bed when they heard the collision.

“We were just getting ready to put the kids to bed after a long weekend, Thanksgiving weekend,” Xiong said.

His surveillance cameras captured the moments before the accident and the collision itself.

A car speeding east on Grand Avenue, fleeing Sheboygan police, ran a stop sign and collided with the patrol car, which had its lights fully on. The police car overturned.

The video shows the moments afterwards when three people get out of the car.

“We heard this loud bang, almost like a bookshelf or cat like, like a dresser falling and hitting the floor,” Xiong said.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the accident. The officer, the driver and two other people in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

It’s a situation that Xiong believed could have been much worse.

“If the car wasn’t stopped there, they would probably hit someone else, because you still see a lot of people walking around here this late at night,” Xiong said. “It’s very lucky that no one else was hurt.”

A 25-year-old Sheboygan man remained at the scene and was arrested. He was referred to the Sheboygan County District Attorney’s Office and Sheboygan/Kohler Municipal Court on numerous charges, including fleeing an officer, possession of a restricted controlled substance and failing to stop at a stop sign.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Sheboygan police at 920-459-3333.
