A man’s windshield was shattered by Orbeez beads thrown from the I-205 overpass

A southwest Washington man was driving on Interstate 205 when someone threw what he described as small beads at his car.

VANCOUVER, Wash. – It was a close call for a Vancouver man who was driving on Interstate 205 when his windshield shattered after what he describes as someone throwing beads from an overpass.

Luckily, the driver wasn’t injured, but whoever was behind it caused over $1,000 worth of damage to their car.

A normal Monday quickly turned into a nightmare for a man driving under the 63rd Street overpass in Vancouver.

“The next thing I know, this object, which I thought was a rock as I drove under it, crashed into the windshield and I was stunned,” said the driver of the car, who did not want to be identified .

It wasn’t a rock that shattered the windshield – it was Orbeez, water-absorbing plastic beads. The driver told KGW he believes those beads were frozen.

When the man got home, he found them all over the interior of his car.

“There was microscopic dust everywhere,” he said. “I mean, my eyes, it went into my nose, my mouth – it looked like it snowed in there.”

Minutes before the driver’s windshield shattered, the driver said he saw two people with flashlights on the overpass.

According to the Washington State Patrol, this is not the only incident they are investigating. In recent weeks, there have been several reports of people throwing objects such as rocks and cinder blocks from overpasses in the same area. No one has been injured so far, but two cars have been totaled.

As for the driver in Monday night’s incident, they said they plan to be even more careful the next time they drive through that area of Vancouver.

A Washington State Patrol trooper said they were investigating all cases but could not say at this time whether they were related.
