A search is currently underway for two men on the county line between Columbia and Rensselaer.

The men stole a truck and rammed a patrol car just as a police officer was getting in, police said.

It started with a chase that began at Dollar General when two men allegedly stole a truck. These men drove this route before speeding off west on Route 20. The police chase lasted over three miles until it ended at the intersection of County Route 13 and Thompson Lane. The stolen truck crashed into the patrol car of a New York State Trooper who was getting into his vehicle, police said.

The collision with the police officer’s car could have been intentional, investigators said.

A manhunt is now underway for two men. The two men fled into the forest on foot.

Police have searched the entire area, they said, and some officers completed the search today. According to neighbors, helicopters were used in the search. There is no word on whether the soldier was hit in the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 845-677-7300.
