A statistic for each New Jersey Devils forward that proves their success this season

After 24 games of the season, the Devils currently have the most points of any team in the NHL. This is a bit of a mirage because they have played more games than any other team and their point percentage is truly the sixth best in the league. This statistic is ultimately the most important, as it will determine whether they play for the Stanley Cup or play golf in mid-April.

But now that we’re more than a quarter of the way through the season, let’s take a look at a statistic in which every Devils player stands out compared to the rest of the NHL. First we’ll take a look at the Devils’ forwards, but in future articles we’ll also take a look at their defensemen and goaltenders. All stats referenced are courtesy of Natural Stat Trick or Hockey Reference’s rankings. We decided to set the baseline at 100 minutes of ice time this season to filter out some of the small cameos from players like Daniil Misyul and Nolan Foote.

Nico Hischier – Drawn Penalties (15)

Nico’s relentless motor has led to a bevy of defenders taking penalties to prevent him from creating scoring chances. He ranks third in the NHL in penalties drawn (15), behind only the Bruins’ David Pastrnak (17) and Brad Marchand (13). Even more impressive is his discipline in response; In contrast to Pastrnak (9 shots) and Marchand (10 shots), he only took one small penalty.
