A woman was fatally struck by a car while walking in Murrieta, police said

MURRIETA, Calif. (AP) — A 60-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking on a Murrieta street Wednesday, police said Friday.

Debbie Aponte, of Murrieta, was struck just before 6:30 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving while walking along Murrieta Hot Springs Road on Calle Del Lago, Murrieta police said on social media.

Authorities attempted life-saving measures, but Aponte died from her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with officers, police said. He gave a statement and showed no signs or symptoms of impairment, officials said.

Investigators believe the woman may have been walking or attempting to cross the roadway when she was struck. Because there were several vehicles in the area during and immediately after the accident, officers are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact police.
