A woman was shocked to wake up after a routine operation to find doctors had removed an unnecessary organ

Getting two for one is usually a great deal unless it involves surgery. A young woman woke up after a simple procedure, only to be jokingly told by doctors that they had removed an extra organ. Okay, not to laugh, but the patient was distraught, the doctors didn’t tell her about it first.

Bella, 24, was hospitalized for a common condition called endometriosis. This causes tissue similar to that in the uterus to grow outside the uterus. The procedure is usually quite minor and can be carried out quickly.

However, when she woke up, she was shocked to find that doctors had removed an extra organ. Instead of just cutting or burning off the cysts, they had decided to remove her healthy appendix. Apparently they had decided to get it out “just in case” while they were there.

The appendix is a pretty useless organ overall. It probably had a purpose at one time, but now it’s redundant. The only time it becomes significant again is when it decides to explode, sometimes resulting in death. So while doctors were solving one problem, they were preemptively eliminating another.

Doctors told Bella that they removed the extra organ so that it would be easier to diagnose the associated pain in the future. Instead of creating confusion about where the stomach pain is coming from, doctors have reduced its chances. In her video, she said she was told: “We want to make sure that the next time you go to the hospital with a stomach ache, the doctors don’t waste four hours trying to figure out whether it’s appendicitis or not.”

However, it must have felt quite strange for Bella to wake up from surgery a little easier than she originally expected. She was also quite annoyed by her argument. In her TikTok, she shares a similar issue with the way women are treated in hospitals, as many others share.

Her problem is that the doctors didn’t want to believe her pain at all. Instead of listening to her and believing that she understood her own body, they removed an “entire A–organ.”
