A wrong-way driver crashes into the Ingham County officer’s patrol car

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Ingham County deputies dealt with four wrong-way drivers on Thanksgiving Day – including one that crashed into a deputy’s patrol car.

Around 4:30 a.m. Friday morning, officers learned of a vehicle traveling the wrong way on northbound US-127 near I-96. While officers managed to stop the car near Covert Road, the car collided with a patrol car and continued south in the northbound lanes.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department used a tire deflation device to blow out all four of the car’s tires and arrested the driver, a 37-year-old man from St. Johns. According to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, the Ingham County Prosecutor will investigate and determine whether or not to charge the man with reckless driving, fleeing and evading, and resisting arrest.

No one was injured in the accident and there was only minor damage to the deputy’s car.

However, prior to this incident, officers dealt with three other incidents. The first case occurred around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when officers were dispatched to a wrong-way driver on US-127 in Jackson County, but returned after Jackson County officers stopped the car.

At 3 a.m., dispatchers learned that a vehicle was traveling in the westbound lanes of the 496 near Cedar St., but officers were unable to locate the car.

Fifteen minutes later, around 3:15 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes of US-127 near I-96, but were unable to locate the car. Jackson County officers stopped the vehicle.
