Aaron Rodgers is expected to return to the Jets in 2025

There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers so far in 2024, and most of it for all the wrong reasons. The Jets are having one of the most disappointing seasons of any team in the NFL, entering Week 13 with a record of 3-8.

The Jets have tried everything possible to turn their season around. They fired head coach Robert Saleh, demoted offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and spontaneously traded for star wide receiver Davante Adams. None of these things have proven to be an antidote for the Jets, who continue to lose game after game.

Of course, these struggles have led to a lot of speculation about Rodgers’ future with the team. The veteran quarterback’s declining play, combined with his personality, has had rumors flying everywhere about whether Rodgers will even play next season and where that will happen if he does.

As it turns out, if Rodgers actually plays next season, he likely won’t be in a Jets uniform, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

“From what I understand, Rodgers returning to the Jets is a big opportunity right now,” Rapoport reported on NFL GameDay. “These discussions will take place after the year with the new power brokers, but that is my understanding of the current situation.”

Rodgers and the Jets were unable to be consistently explosive on offense despite having very talented players like Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson and Adams. On defense, this talented Jets unit has declined massively since Saleh’s firing. This side of the ball has been one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL.

The expectation for this Jets team was to at least advance to the playoffs and compete for the AFC East crown, if not go beyond it. Any team that invests in Rodgers at this stage of his career is trying to win now, and the Jets have failed miserably in that regard this season. Now the future of the franchise at the quarterback position is unclear.
