AFC Notes: Bradley Chubb, Garrett Wilson, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots

Dolphins

Dolphins OLB Bradley Chubb suffered a torn ACL late last season and was designated for return just over two weeks ago. Although they may decide to hold him off until 2025, with slim playoff hopes this year, Miami DC Anthony Weaver discussed what Chubb looked like in recovery.

“Chubb looks like a guy trying to get back to where he used to be.” Weaver said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “He shines, but you don’t want to touch that field until you know you’re your best. When he plays, he’s ready to go. . . He’s getting to this point.”

Jets

Jets WR Davante Adams praises the fellow recipient very much Garrett Wilson and hopes the two stay together in New York next season, with Adams calling Wilson one of the best receivers he’s ever played with.

“I’ve never played with a receiver who gets as much respect from the defense as he does.” Adams said ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “It gives me certain opportunities to be in one-on-one conversations more than before.”

However, Wilson didn’t want to commit to the pair working together again next season in the Big Apple.

“I won’t be too hasty.” Wilson said when asked about a possible return. “Yeah, we’ll see what happens.”

There was a lot of drama surrounding the team and even CB this season Gravy Gardner admitted it had an effect on him.

“My mental state wasn’t that good at the start (of the season)” Gardner told ESPN. “There was so much adversity in the building and my mental state just wasn’t right. I didn’t have fun. That’s exactly what it was.”

  • Wilson about not getting involved in the offense until the fourth quarter against the Rams: “I don’t know, to be honest, man. I don’t know. I just have to go out there and do my best and hope things go my way. I’d like to be involved and have an impact on the game, but if people see it differently, that’s out of my control. I just try to do what I can.” (Zack Rosenblatt)
  • Jets HC Jeff Ulbrich had no details on OT Olu FashanuHe suffered an injury to his left foot and added that it was too early to speak of an Achilles tendon injury before undergoing further tests. Fashanu was seen on crutches after the game. (Rich Cimini)

Patriots

According to Patriots OL coach Scott PetersPatriots OL Cole Strange has brought representatives into focus, a position of great importance to the team.

“He did a good job” Peters said, via Chris Mason of MassLive.com. “He’s learning. It’s new to him, but he learns it pretty quickly. I think he’s done a pretty good job so far… he knows the system. I think the basic techniques are getting closer. I think for him it’s more about feeling confident and giving the green light. He’s fast. He is strong. He is sporty. He can pull. A smart guy. He can run the show there. I think he has all the qualities you could want. It’s just kind of refining it and making him feel more comfortable.”

As for C David AndrewsHe is approaching his 33rd birthday and told reporters that he was unsure if he would be able to return due to the nature of his shoulder injury.

“In 2021 I tore my rotator cuff off the bone. Now I have torn it in the flesh,” Andrews said on his podcast. “So they’ll try to explain a – that’s someone who doesn’t have a college degree – but they’ll try to put a cover over it and hopefully the muscles will grow back.” It’s not 100% but it gives me the best chance to continue my football career and that’s all I could ask for.”

  • Patriots OC Alex Van Pelt wants to keep QB Drake Maye He stays healthy until the end of the season, which will lead to fewer designed QB runs. (Evan Lazar)
  • Patriots RB Antonio Gibson was fined $14,805 for unnecessary rudeness (use of helmet), and DE Deatrich Wise was fined $16,883 for unnecessary rudeness (horse collar tackle) in week 15.
