After an attack on the UWS, police officers catch a suspect sitting in a car near his parents’ apartment.

A suspect was arrested in the early hours of November 21 over the brutal attack on a tourist in the Upper West just before 11am that morning.

Joshua Zinberg, 25, was charged with attempted murder, two counts of assault and possession of a deadly weapon. Prosecutors filed a certificate of affirmative action from the grand jury on Nov. 27, but the indictment remains sealed until his arraignment in Supreme Court on Dec. 16, a spokesman for District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.

Police said the 55-year-old male victim was walking in front of 114 West 86 Street around 10:20 a.m. Nov. 20 at the time of the attack, which was captured on surveillance video.

According to eyewitness accounts and video surveillance, Zinberg abandoned his parked car, ran across Columbus Avenue and came up behind the man, described by prosecutors as a 55-year-old “international tourist,” walking down 86th St. The victim was said to be a former professional soccer player from Denmark, with no prior connection to the alleged attacker, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News.

Zinberg is said to have run up behind the victim with the knife in his hand and slashed the man from behind across the right side of his face, through his ear and into his neck.

The victim, who was with two friends, turned around and saw the defendant running back the way he came. Zinberg reportedly shouted “F*** you” to the tree men before fleeing.

The supervisor of a nearby building gave the victim a shirt and a towel to apply to his wounds. “He was bleeding so much,” the supervisor said Daily News. “He lost feeling in his face. He was in shock.”

An eyewitness took a photo of the car and its license plates as Zinberg fled. Investigators ran the license plates and determined that the orange 2024 Subaru Crosstrek was registered to the defendant at 170 W. 85th St, a block from the crime scene, where Zinberg lived with his parents.

There were wanted flyers circulating with a picture of his car and still images of the defendant that came from video surveillance.

The city was in turmoil as it was at least the second knife attack in Manhattan in less than a week. In a horrific attack on November 18, a homeless man stabbed two men and a woman in separate unprovoked attacks in the Chelsea, Tudor City and Kips Bay neighborhoods. Ramon Ramirez, 51, was arrested for those attacks as he tried to flee First Avenue south of the U.N. building.

NYPD officers discovered the defendant sitting in his car outside his home address at 1 a.m. on November 21, approximately 13 hours after the attack, and he was arrested without incident.

Prosecutors said Zinberg was wearing the same shorts and shoes he was seen wearing on video surveillance during the cutting. When he was searched after his arrest, police officers recovered a knife from him. Although the defendant has no criminal history, bail was set at $150,000 cash or $450,000 cash and surety.

The victim has since been transported to Mount Sinai Morningside, where he was in stable condition and was able to assist police in identifying his attacker.

Zinberg was seen spitting on reporters after being led by the 20th Part. on November 21 after his arrest. “This is all for you,” he said New York Post reported that he yelled at reporters. “Teach you to fuck the Jewish Joshua!”
