After the renaming, Jaguar presents the Type 00 concept car

British automaker Jaguar has released images of its Type 00 electric concept car, two weeks after rolling out a rebrand that caused a stir online.

The Type 00 concept car, unveiled in a series of renderings at Miami Art Week last night, is said to embody Jaguar’s new creative philosophy of “exuberant modernism,” with a design that the company says defies electric vehicle conventions.

The exterior of the car combines a curved fastback rear with a boxy and angular front end and a panoramic roof that is said to have “body-harmonizing glazing”.

Both the front and rear of the car utilize the ‘Strikethrough’ – a new linear graphic motif that hides the full-width taillights at the rear – while the classic image of the leaping Jaguar is eliminated from the front or rear of the car was in favor of the rounded letterforms of the new word mark.

The “jumper” instead appears discreetly on the side of the car, where it is laser engraved into a brass bar that opens to reveal the rear-facing cameras.

“Type 00 is a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy,” said Gerry McGovern, Chief Creative Officer of Jaguar Land Rover. “It has an unmistakable presence. This is the result of bold, unfettered creative thinking and unwavering determination.”

“It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation for a new Jaguar family that will look unlike anything you have ever seen. A vision that strives for the highest level of artistic endeavor.”

Constantino Segui Gilabert, Jaguar’s chief exterior designer, added that the concept car had a “dramatic presence” that channeled British creativity and originality.

“Jaguar is not a place for ordinary things,” he said. “When you see a new Jaguar for the first time, you can’t help but feel a sense of awe, as if you’ve never seen it before. The Type 00 commands attention, like all the best Jaguars of the past.”

Inside, the Type 00 features three materials: brass, travertine stone and woven wool blend textiles. Three lines of brass run the length of the interior, one along each door and one in the middle, forming a “spine” while the stone acts as a base for the seats.

Perhaps most unusually, there is an interactive experience called Prism based on these materials.

Users can select one of three totems – one made of brass, one made of travertine and the last made of alabaster – and place it in the center console to customize the mood of the interior, including elements such as ambient lighting, soundscape and on-screen graphics. The experience is intended to invite users to reflect and appreciate simple sensations.

“We have three main materials – brass, travertine stone and textiles – and the way we use these materials represents bold works of art and creates a unique atmosphere,” said Mary Crisp, chief designer of materials at Jaguar.

As with the exterior, the focus is on subtle or hidden technologies, with screens that slide across the dashboard, powered storage spaces that open when needed and a live display that replaces the rearview mirror.

The Type 00 was presented in two colors – Miami Pink and London Blue. The concept car’s name is intended to evoke the classic naming convention used for historic models such as Jaguar’s E-Type, while the first zero refers to zero exhaust emissions and the second indicates that it is a new generation zero car.

Jaguar has positioned its rebranding as a “complete new beginning” and plans to unveil its first redesigned production car, an electric four-door GT, at the end of 2025. As part of this push, the company will also open new “brand shops” around the world.

Jaguar was widely ridiculed when the company unveiled its rebranding on November 18, particularly for a video advertisement that featured various human models but no cars.

In a Dezeen opinion column about Dezzeen, design writer Sophie Tolhurt said it was “confusing” and suggested the company was “relying on other people’s visions of the future” rather than finding its own.
