Alabama and Arkansas fall over the holiday week

The Oregon Ducks have been a thorn in the side of the SEC this week.

Alabama and Texas A&M suffered losses to the Ducks in Las Vegas, forcing both teams to slide down our league-wide totem pole. Still, it was a successful week for the conference overall, with one team in particular looking primed for a strong March run.

Here are our fourth series of SEC power rankings, with rankings and records based on games played on Sunday, December 1st.

1. Auburn

Best team in the conference? How about the best team in the country? With three ranked wins, Auburn already set program records before December.

Record: 7-0

2. Tennessee

The Vols just suffocate opposing teams early in the season and demand respect in the process.

Record: 7-0

3. Kentucky

A scuffle with lowly Georgia State? Is that really necessary? That’s what Mark Pope thought, and he’s been pushing all the right buttons for a month.

Last week: 4

Record: 7-0

4.Alabama

A grueling schedule is one thing, but injuries and turnovers should be kept in mind as our No. 1 continues to lag behind its rivals in preseason.

Last week: 2

Record: 6-2

5.Florida

A strong defense and a balanced offense make the Gators look scary. All that remains is to actually prove it against a good team.

Last week: 5

Record: 8-0

Do the rebels have one of the best offensives in America? Ole Miss impressed mightily with a win over BYU and a two-point loss to Purdue.

Last week: 10

Record: 6-1

7.Texas

It was no problem for the Longhorns to take down overwhelming opponents. More stringent tests are on the horizon.

Last week: 8

Record: 6-1

8. Mississippi State

The Bulldogs’ defense saw a boost in pace last week in the form of Butler’s Jahmyl Telfort, and we may not know much more about this team until SEC play begins.

Last week: 9

Record: 6-1

9.Arkansas

Just like Florida, the Razorbacks have to beat a good team. Unlike the Gators, Arkansas has already had several chances.

Record: 5-2

10. Texas A&M

It was a difficult start to the year for Wade Taylor IV, but he delivered an outstanding performance and secured an upset win over Rutgers.

Last week: 7

Record: 6-2

11.Oklahoma

Surprise, surprise. The Sooners went to the Bahamas and beat Arizona and Louisville. A successful year for Porter Moser is just around the corner.

Last week: 12

Record: 7-0

12. Georgia

Admittedly, we might be too far down on the Bulldogs. The win against St. John’s in the Bahamas was one of the best wins in the league this week.
