Alabama football rises in coaches’ top 25 rankings after Auburn win

Alabama football was rewarded for its win Saturday against Auburn as the coaches top 25 poll was updated Sunday. The Crimson Tide moved back into the Top 12, although the poll has no bearing on what the College Football Playoff committee will do in the next few weeks.

Following the Iron Bowl win, Alabama moved up two spots in the Coaches’ Poll to finish at No. 11, and will also likely move up in the Associated Press media poll when it is updated later Sunday. The Crimson Tide was helped by both its win and losses at Miami and Clemson.

South Carolina, which beat Clemson on Saturday, rose two spots in the coaches’ poll to No. 12. Clemson fell five spots to No. 17.

Miami lost to Syracuse, its second loss of the season. The Hurricanes fell seven spots to No. 14.

Oregon remained No. 1 in the coaches’ poll after its win over Washington. After a surprising loss to Michigan, Ohio State fell to No. 8, which led to several teams moving up.

Texas jumped to No. 2 in the poll, while Penn State climbed to No. 3. Both teams will play their respective conference championship games next weekend.

Notre Dame climbed to No. 4 in the coaches poll after defeating Southern Cal. Georgia, which survived a Friday night thriller against Georgia Tech, rounded out the top five, followed by Tennesee.

Indiana finished ninth, while Boise State took the final spot in the top 10.
