Alabama lawmakers say Trump’s FBI pick could be good news for Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Redstone Arsenal, home to thousands of FBI employees, could expand its role amid possible major changes to the agency’s structure.

Kash Patel, chosen by President-elect Trump to lead the FBI, could be the one to lead the changes.

Four decades later, a man was finally convicted of murder and kidnapping in Athens

Patel has long advocated for radical changes at the agency, including closing the J. Edgar Hoover Building in Washington, D.C., and members of the congressional delegation have said that could mean moving more FBI personnel to Alabama.

“The FBI’s focus should be protecting Americans from terrorists, hostile foreign actors, and violent criminals, and Huntsville is best positioned to be an invaluable partner in achieving this shared goal,” said U.S. Senator Katie Britt ( R-AL) in a statement to News 19.

“The FBI’s operations at Redstone Arsenal are at the forefront of the 21st century innovation and training needed to combat the threats of the future,” Britt said. “I am confident that Redstone Arsenal will be instrumental in fulfilling the FBI’s core mission for decades to come.”

Huntsville-area Congressman Dale Strong (R-AL) also responded to the election.

“We need to reorganize the FBI and make its work less politically charged and more effective,” he said. “As for the FBI presence in Huntsville, Alabama, we have proven that it can be run efficiently and are prepared to create more jobs here as changes are made across the country.”

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) also praised the election on social media.

For the selection to be valid, Patel must be confirmed by the Senate.
