The Crimson Tide women’s basketball team improved to 9-0 with a 98-49 win over Georgia State. This win marks the first 9-0 start since the 2000-2001 season.

Starting weekday mornings made it easier for kids to get to the program’s annual fifth-grade fast break game.

“I want to thank every administrator, every teacher and our entire publicity department for putting on a great event today. There were so many young people in the stands that they may never have had the chance to be at Coleman Coliseum. The educational opportunity for an experience like today is always taken away from them,” said Alabama coach Kristy Curry.

Georgia State started the game with an early lead before Alabama came back with a 10-0 run to end the quarter with a 19-15 lead. The Tide’s comeback continued in the second quarter, taking a 23-point lead at halftime. Alabama would continue to increase its lead in the second half and score a 49-point win.

“I thought we played a really good 35 minutes of basketball. I wasn’t happy with the first five (minutes), but I really liked our reaction after that,” Curry said.

Rebounding and free throws were strong points for the Tide. Alabama collected 65 rebounds, its first game with over 60 since 2014. The Crimson Tide shot 91% from the foul line (21-23), compared to Georgia State’s 40% (9-22).

Essence Cody and Zay Green stood out during the game, both recording double-doubles. Cody had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Green had 22 points and 10 rebounds. It is the first time this season that Alabama has multiple players record a double-double in the same game.

Alabama is currently on a 15-game non-conference winning streak, the second longest in program history. The best non-conference stretch in program history is 17 straight in two seasons, 1992 and 1993.

The Crimson Tide hopes to move to 10-0 later this week when it travels to Cal-Berkley on Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
