Americans’ trust in the medical establishment has plummeted; How can doctors regain this trust?

12:00: How can public health regain widespread trust?

1:00: Can tariffs protect the auto industry?

President-elect Donald Trump wants Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead and reform public health in America. RFK Jr. has said vaccines harm children; that HIV does not cause AIDS; that many breakfast cereals should be banned. Scientists say many of his ideas are completely devoid of evidence or logic. But they are increasingly popular among an American public that does not have a high opinion of institutions — including the medical establishment. So what can doctors do? What do medical professionals want to tell the public? How can public health regain widespread trust? Our guests discuss:

  • Michael Mendoza, MD, board-certified family physician and former Monroe public health commissioner
  • Elizabeth Murray, DO, director of pediatric health and safety communications at Golisano Children’s Hospital
  • David Topa, MD, pediatrician in private practice and future associate medical director at RIT Student Health Center

In our second hour, can tariffs protect the American auto industry? The next presidential administration is preparing some significant changes in economic policy. We speak with union leaders from the UAW and IBEW about how they plan to empower the working class. In the studio:

  • Dan Maloney, president of the Rochester Area Labor Federation, president of the Rochester Labor Council and president of UAW Local 1097
  • Ray Ryerse, executive director of IBEW Local 86
