Amsterdam Stech: Five in the knife attack near the Dam Square injured

Five people were injured after being stung near Amsterdam’s central Dam Square, the police said.

The police said a suspect was arrested, but a motive for the stab was unclear.

A large cordon was set up on Sint Nicolaasstraat and the Dam Square, local media reported.

Film material divided on social media seemed to show a helicopter landing on the square, taking injured people to the hospital.

It is said to have taken place with the jump -off shortly before 3:30 p.m. De Telegraaf The newspaper reported that at least fourteen police cars and an official on a motorcycle had flooded the scene within 15 minutes.

The outlet quoted a police spokesman with the statement that the officials had received reports on a robbery and that it was not yet clear whether a risk had remained for the public after the suspect was arrested. “We are fully present there,” said a spokesman.

Detective said they would try to establish a motif as part of their investigation and asked people with a film material from the incident to share it with the police.

Dam Square is an area that is popular with tourists who visit the Dutch capital. It is located in the historic center of the city and includes sights such as the royal palace.

The mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, is said to have held at a council meeting during the knife stab and withdrawn from a debate due to the incident.

Instead, Ms. Halsema meets with the chief attorney René de Beukelaer and the chief of police Peter Holla, her spokesman told the local outlets.
