An Alabama man is hosting a memorial service in Washington to honor the lives of children killed during the ongoing war in Ukraine

A man is using his voice to reach out to other elected officials on Capitol Hill. This time to end the war in Ukraine. Jeff Abrams said that nearly 600 children died during the war. To commemorate the lives lost, he told WVTM 13 that he placed 600 bears in front of the Washington Monument in Washington, DC. Since 20 percent of Ukraine has been taken over by Russia, Abrams believes there could be even more children who were killed because it is difficult for them to keep track of it. Each one bears the name of a child killed in the war and their age. Abrams said children as young as a few months old are part of the memorial. Over Thanksgiving weekend, Abrams traveled to Washington, D.C., and held a ceremony honoring the children and their families, where all 600 names were read aloud and a bell rang for each one – he sang songs and prayed. He hopes to draw attention to the suffering of Ukrainian children and send a message to the Ukrainian and Russian embassies: “We particularly wanted them to note our deep concern about what they are guilty of when it comes to “The murder of the children of Ukraine is going on,” Abrams said. “We actually brought some teddy bears there with fake blood on them to bring back the reality of what’s happening to the children in Ukraine. “It’s a terrible thing.” As a clergyman, Abrams said prayer is important but he has the feeling that there has to be action behind it. He plans to build a memorial in the state of Florida, where President-elect Donald Trump currently lives.
