The suspect faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, providing false identity and driving a vehicle without a license.

MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. – An Indianapolis man was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop and leading police on a high-speed chase in Morgan County Tuesday afternoon.

Indiana State Police said a trooper initiated a traffic stop for an infraction on a white 2003 Ford F350 wrecked truck on SR67 between Martinsville and Mooresville.

ISP said the trooper soon discovered the driver, a 38-year-old man from Indianapolis, did not have a driver’s license.

As the officer walked back to his police vehicle, the suspect drove away. Police said the crashed car was traveling north on SR67 at a speed of 90 miles per hour. During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly attempted to slow down and hit the officer’s vehicle.

Mooresville Police deployed stop sticks and the suspect’s vehicle struck the stop sticks in two places but continued driving.

According to police, the person who caused the accident passed through the intersection of Bridge Street and SR67 and went off the right side of the road, almost hitting the Blueberry Hill Pancake House building.

The suspect did not stop and attempted to drive back onto SR67, but ended up stopping in the grass in front of a UPS store.

Before the suspect’s arrest, ISP said he “complained that he was suffering from a medical event.” Brown Township EMS responded to the scene and investigated.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken to the Morgan County Jail where he was given custody.

The suspect faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, providing false identity and driving a vehicle without a license. Police said more charges could follow.
