Another fatal motorcycle accident reported on the Puna Highway

(Bivn) – For the second time in two days, a motorcyclist was killed on a Puna motorway.

On Monday afternoon, February 3, a man was killed on the Kea’au-Pahoa Road after his motorcycle fell against a dump truck. The victim’s identity is held back until the next relative is notified, the police said.

The fatal crash comes a day after a 32-year-old Puna man was killed after falling his motorcycle into a limousine when he was traveling on Highway 11 in Keaʻau.



This is the 5th mode of transport from 2025 compared to 4 of the same time in the past year.

From the Hawaii police department:

The police reacted to a reported traffic collision at 3:38 p.m. and learned that a motorcycle, which was operated by a man, was assumed that he was regarded in the thirties or 40s, the motorcycle driver began to go to several vehicles on the Mauka shoulder drive. The motorcyclist then collided with a Peterbilt coating car 2020, which bent into an entrance to the right in the 15-2600 block of the Kea’au-Pahoa Road. Several witnesses were interviewed on site.

The male motorcyclist no longer reacted at the crime scene and was brought to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he was passed away at 7:23 p.m. An autopsy was ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The identity of the motorcyclist is held back until the notification of the next relatives.

The operator of the dump truck, a 67-year-old Hilo man, was not injured.

At this point, the police believe that speed, alcohol and/or drugs are possible factors in the collision. The male motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

The East Hawaii traffic enforcement unit reacted to the scene and continues this examination.
