The Alabama women’s basketball team defeated Georgia State 98-49 on Monday. The Crimson Tide is on the rise, starting the season 9-0 and sitting at No. 19 in the AP poll.

Alabama hosted many students from surrounding schools in the Tuscaloosa area for its annual Fast Break for fifth graders. Head coach Kristy Curry commented that she saw all the little kids on their trip to Coleman Coliseum.

“I want to thank every administrator, every teacher and our entire publicity department for putting on a great event today,” Curry said in a news release. “There were so many young people in the stands who maybe never had the chance to be at Coleman Coliseum. The educational opportunity for an experience like this is something they will always take with them. There’s a lot of energy and effort that went into it.” We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping to make this possible today.”

As for what was happening on the court, Zaay Green had an incredible shooting day, scoring 22 points on an 8-13 performance. Four of her eight baskets came from behind the arc, and she achieved a hit rate of 67 percent from three baskets. Green also had 10 rebounds and seven assists, nearly notching a triple-double.

Essence Cody also had a day, securing a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

“Zaay with a near triple-double, Essence, who didn’t have the greatest first half, but I really liked their response with a double-double in the second half,” Curry said. “There are so many positives today, but I just can’t do it. “I can’t say enough about our leadership group and how hard they respond every day to come back and go to work.”

Alabama looks to continue its winning streak as it travels to Berkley, California for its next game on Thursday. The Crimson Tide will face a strong team at Cal whose only loss came in a close game against a currently ranked and undefeated Michigan State team.
