Ashtabula City Schools will be closed Monday. for vacation; now closed on Tuesdays too. for snow

Ashtabula City Schools announced Sunday that school will be canceled on Tuesday and sports practices and competitions will be postponed until further notice due to the Level 3 snow emergency and state of emergency in Ashtabula.

Principal Lisa Newsome said there was no school on Monday because of a holiday.

According to AACS, the weekend’s heavy snowfall caused roof damage at Lakeside High School due to heavy snow and water damage. According to AACS, firefighters were at the high school Sunday to help repair the damage.

More than 3 feet of snow has already been reported for Ashtabula County from the lake effect snow that began on Thanksgiving.

In a Facebook post, AACS said its schools are closing to ensure the safety of students and staff. It was accompanied by an audio message from Newsome, who provided more information about the cancellation.

AACS also released an update for athletics:

Weather advisories and warnings have been issued for Ashtabula, Lake, Geuaga and Cuyahoga counties
