The Sun Devils dropped two games against the Bearcats, but Bloomquist said that the criticism exceeded the border when it turned into threats. He made it clear that every hostility directed against his players should be aimed at him instead.

Bloomquist, now in his fourth season as head coach of his Alma Mater, was visibly angry when he defended his players – of whom many teenagers are who navigated the pressure of college baseball. He accused online users to hide behind Burner accounts and to target student athletes who give everything for the program.

“These are college children. They are not professionals,” said Bloomquist. “They compete out there with their butt and sometimes they will give it up, sometimes we will go through a hard route. This does not give people the right to get into social media and threaten my players.”

He added: “This is Bull – that’s cowardice. If you want to threaten someone, threaten me. These are my children and I will protect the shit from them.”

The Sun Devils rolled back with a convincing victory, and Bloomquist hopes that the focus will return to the game. Nevertheless, his message was that the safety of the player and intellectual well-being came first, loud and clear-and your head coach has her back.
