Atlanta daycare director knocked down after road rage incident while child was in car – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA – A daycare operator said her request to slow down a car was met with a violent attack.

According to Vita Zuniga, cars often speed down Sylvan Road. And when Zuniga, who runs Sylvan Hills Day Nursery, a home-based daycare center, saw a speeding car on Sylvan Road Monday morning, she spoke up.

“As I was crossing the road he was speeding over the hill and I said slow down. I didn’t do the middle finger, you know, just ‘slower down,'” Zuniga said Channel 2’s Candace McCowan.

As she reached her van, the driver, who had previously been in a hurry, found time to turn and stop next to her.

“‘You got a problem with me, blah blah blah, you know you gave me the middle finger,'” Zuniga remembers the man saying. “I said, ‘Sir, I just said slow down. This is a school zone.’”

She tried to cross the street to go back to daycare and was hit.

“Like I snuck in. It’s like what you call a sucker punch, but it was more like a sucker punch on the concrete that then just laughed at me,” Zuniga said.

The bruise on her face, she said, was from where her face hit the concrete. The passenger in the car was on top of her and attacked her. The assault only stopped when the driver came to pick up the woman.

“I screamed at the top of my lungs. I just had to scream because I couldn’t get up,” Zuniga said.

The driver escaped. Zuniga hopes police can find pictures of the car and then the couple.

She says it all happened in the moments before the parents dropped off their children at her daycare. And while the couple had a small child in the car.

“I’m sorry that you have to wake up enough with this demon every morning to inflict this kind of violence on a person,” Zuniga said.
