Atlanta security guard’s family hopes for murder trial after multiple delays – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA – Nearly three years after the killing of an Atlanta security guard, the trial of his alleged killer is set to begin this week.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday morning.

Damon Wilson, 24, is on trial accused of shooting a security guard at Encore Hookah Bar in February 2022.

That security guard was Ty Ross. He was 28 years old.

He was engaged to marry Aaliyah Strong.

“I hope it moves forward so we can get closure by 2025,” Strong said.

She said the process had been delayed several times.

It was scheduled to begin in February 2023, according to court documents.

A judge has since postponed the date at least twice.

Last week, Wilson’s defense team filed a motion asking the judge to give them another month or two to prepare.

“Court can bring up a lot of emotions. So you can imagine the frustration for me and the people who love Ty,” Strong said.

While she waited, she saw Encore close, founded an organization called Tyme to Thrive Beyond Grief and partnered with the city’s nightlife department.

“We teach business owners and security personnel better security practices and how to interact with customers to hopefully reduce the level of gun violence in the city,” Strong said.

Strong said it has been a long journey and she will be at the courthouse awaiting jury selection on Monday.

“If we get through this trial and get the verdict we hope for, that would be a nice holiday wish for us,” Strong said.
