A potential match between Roman Reigns and The Rock has been the subject of discussion and planning at several WrestleManias over the years. WWE initially considered it for WrestleMania XL, but ultimately focused on Cody Rhodes’ story of capturing the WWE Undisputed Championship, fueled by strong fan support.

During Monday’s Raw premiere on Netflix, Reigns defeated Solo Sikoa in a Tribal Combat match. After the match, The Rock appeared, placed the Ula Fala around Reigns’ neck and hugged him, signaling a departure from his “final boss” persona. Earlier in the evening, The Rock delivered a babyface promo that further reinforced his character’s changing tone.

Following the show, Reigns addressed the ongoing speculation about a possible match with The Rock. Reigns explained: “I don’t need to tease anything. You do this for us. We just let the internet run its course. That would defeat the whole purpose of this thing. The internet won’t serve its purpose if I say yes or no, so we’ll see.”

While WWE initially considered Rock vs. Rhodes for WrestleMania 41 this year, that is no longer in the plans. As for The Rock’s future in the ring, it’s up to him. If he feels ready and in ring shape, there is always the possibility of a return.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported: “The idea of Rock vs. Reigns, as several have told us, is not dead.” They could still do that in the future, perhaps at Mania, but the idea is there too , to do it somewhere else, especially given the crazy money some places pay fighters. That could also be an option.”
