“Bad Monkey” renewed for season 2 on Apple TV+

“Bad Monkey” has been renewed for Season 2 on Apple TV+. diversity has learned.

The series originally debuted on Apple’s streaming service in August, with the season finale airing in October. The first season was based on the novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen. There is a sequel novel to “Bad Monkey” called “Razor Girl,” but according to a person with knowledge of the production, Season 2 will not be based on that book. Bill Lawrence developed Bad Monkey for television starring Vince Vaughn.

“I hope people know that Carl Hiaasen is an idol of mine and an inspiration to me as a writer,” Lawrence said. “It’s very exciting to continue telling his story with Vince Vaughn and this great cast, at least the characters who are still alive. I’m extremely grateful to our partners Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. and the entire team helping bring this show to life.”

According to the official logline, the series “tells the story of Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), who was fired from the Miami Police Department and is now a health inspector in the Keys. But after he stumbles upon a case that begins with a human arm being fished from tourists, he realizes that if he can prove murder, he’ll be back at it. He just needs to get past a bunch of Floridian weirdos and an evil monkey.”

In addition to Vaughn, Season 1 of Bad Monkey also starred L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet and Jodie Turner-Smith, as well as special guest star John Ortiz Her television debut stars Zach Braff, Ashley Nicole Black, Scott Glenn and Charlotte Lawrence.

In addition to creating the series, Lawrence also serves as showrunner and executive producer of “Bad Monkey” through Doozer Productions. In addition to starring, Vaughn is also an executive producer. Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Lisa Katzer also executive produce alongside Matt Tarses and Marcos Siega. Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence has an overall deal, is the studio.

“Bad Monkey” is the third show Lawrence has done with Apple TV+. He previously co-created the hit comedy “Ted Lasso” and is currently filming “Shrinking,” whose second season just aired and whose third season has already been renewed.
