A lifelong love leads to an eclectic mix of incredible cars

Tom Cotter’s enthusiasm for classic cars never seems to let him (or us) down. This time is no exception as he has discovered some truly remarkable vehicles from the early 1940s to early 1990s.

1986 Porsche 930 Turbo

One of the standout finds is a 1986 Porsche 930 Turbo, a one-person car parked since 1991 with just 16,000 miles on the clock. The black-on-black sports car was an epic mix of impressive performance and pathetic turbo lag. Despite sitting idle for over 30 years, the Porsche is in surprisingly good condition and shows only minor signs of wear, including signs of mice in the interior. Experts who examined the car reported that the engine ran smoothly and that while some rust was found in the fuel tank, the body and mechanical components remained largely intact.

1991 GMC Syclone

Also parked right next to the Porsche was a 1991 GMC Syclone, a turbo sport truck with only 15,800 miles. Once hailed as the fastest production truck in the world, the Syclone could sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, something it had no right to do. Unfortunately, the truck seemed to be long past its best days.

Lotus replica from the film Win

Oddly (or, given the context, rather appropriately) it even featured a racing car Wina film by Paul Newman. The car resembles a Lotus but was built by Alcraft Bodies and is a fine example of pre-carbon fiber engineering. With its riveted aluminum construction and race-specific modifications, this was a pretty cool find.

Another gem in the collection is a heavily modified Corvette Stingray, believed to date from the 1960s. With flared fenders, a raised manifold and a Hurst shifter, the car takes the viewer into violent flashbacks to the ’70s. Unfortunately, due to the difficulty of moving it, it remains stationary.

Finally, there was an MG TC, a postwar British sports car credited with introducing agile, fun-to-drive vehicles to America. It is complemented by a Lotus Elan, a lightweight sports car with a Ford-derived twin-cam engine that reflects Colin Chapman’s genius for combining performance and simplicity.
