After 36 years, the return of the 1988 Halloween fan favorite brought back the vengeful, hilarious loverboy ghost Beetlejuice, played by Michael Keaton; the gothic queen herself, Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder; and Catherine O’Hara as Lydia’s stepmother Delia Deetz.

The sequel also introduced new faces like Jenna Ortega, who plays Astrid, the third generation of Deetz women; Monica Bellucci, who plays Beetlejuice’s ex-wife Delores; Willem Dafoe as the charmingly helpless wolf Jackson; Arthur Conti as the boy next door, Jeremy Frazie; and an appearance by Danny Devito, among many others.

The premise of the new film is about the three Deetz women returning to the fictional village of Winter River, Connecticut. There, Lydia’s teenage daughter Astrid (Ortega) accidentally opens a portal to the afterlife, forcing Lydia to follow her and face her past – Beetlejuice.

Reviews for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice were largely positive, praising it as a nostalgic horror film that stayed true to the acclaimed director’s signature style, with silly, grotesque creatures cluttering the screen, optical illusion sets, a stirring soundtrack, and of course a stop-motion animation segment.
