Bills, Chiefs, Lions can secure a berth

Three teams can book their tickets for the NFL playoffs this week.

The AFC’s top two teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, as well as the team at the top of the NFC, the Detroit Lions, all have a chance to clinch a playoff spot in Week 13. Buffalo even has a chance of winning its division title thanks to poor play in the AFC East.

Even if all three teams secure a spot, they still have a lot of work to do in the final five weeks of the season. The Chiefs and Lions will continue to compete for the division title, and all three teams have a shot at the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences.

Here are all the ways the Bills, Lions and Chiefs could clinch a playoff spot in Week 13:

The Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs can each advance to the championship rounds of the 2024 NFL season with locked playoff spots. Here’s how you can do it:

Buffalo Bills playoff win scenarios: Week 13

The Bills will win the AFC East and secure a top-four spot in the NFL playoffs if:

Bills win (vs. 49ers) AND Dolphins lose (vs. Packers)

Detroit Lions playoff win scenarios: Week 13

The Lions will clinch a playoff spot if:

The Lions win (against the Bears) AND the 49ers lose or tie (at the Bills) AND
- EITHER the Cardinals lose or tie (at the Vikings) AND the Seahawks lose (at the Jets) AND
  - Buccaneers lose or draw (at Panthers) OR
  - Commanders lose or draw (vs. Titans) AND Falcons lose (vs. Chargers) OR
  - Commanders lose AND Falcons draw
- OR Cardinals lose AND Seahawks draw AND
  - Buccaneers lose or draw OR
  - Commanders lose or draw AND Falcons lose OR
  - The Commanders lose and the Falcons have a draw
