Binnington stops 31, sets the Blues’ winning record by shutting out the Devils

Holloway made it 2-0 at 6:23, three seconds into a Blues power play, with a wrist shot from the right circle.

Holloway extended the game to 3-0 from the slot at 16:05 by chipping in a loose puck from Colton Parayko’s one-timer from the left point. It was the first time this season that St. Louis scored three goals in the first period.

Holloway has four points (two goals, two assists) in the last two games.

“Sometimes things click. “I’m just going to keep working like I always do,” Holloway said. “I feel good about my game at the moment. I try to stay confident, but at the same time I have to have a short memory. You never want to get too high or too low.”

The Devils outscored the Blues 24-10 in the final two periods, including 11-1 in the second period, but were unable to defeat Binnington.

“It was pressure, but I couldn’t find a way to get it,” New Jersey forward Stefan Noesen said. “It’s probably just not tough enough in these areas. … When things don’t go your way, you have to find other ways to score.”

Montgomery, of Binnington, said: “(He) held the fort (in the second period) while we fought. But the positive thing is that it was very obvious where we needed to improve and what we needed to continue to do well.”

Buchnevich left the game at 7:06 of the second period, resting his right leg, and did not return.

Montgomery didn’t have an update after the game, saying, “I think it’s day to day, but I don’t have anything.”

NOTES: In addition to Thomas, Rob Ramage (January 24, 1987) and Andy McDonald (November 11, 2010) also scored in nine seconds to open the game for the Blues. Greg Paslawski (October 29, 1985) and Alexander Steen (March 16, 2010) hold the record of eight seconds. … New Jersey was suspended for the fourth time this season and second time in the last four home games.
