Blaze Stun’s top wrestler, progress for the national semi-finals

From: Brook Weber

Philadelphia –

Sophomore Joey Blaze The wrestling world shook with a 5: 4 decision on Penn States first-class Tyler Kasak in Session III on Friday of the NCAA championships.

Blaze (No. 8, 157 pounds) climbed into the national semi-finals with the victory against Kasak (No. 1, 157) and won his status as Purdues 62nd all-American.

Redshirt senior Matt Ramos (No. 2, 125) will join the session IV on Friday evening on the consolation side of the 125 pound holder after she suffered a heartbreaking defeat against No. 7 in the quarterfinals against Troy Spratley (Oklahoma State).

The native of Blaze in Perrsyburg, Ohio, took another victory on the second day to become an all-American. This is the case for Ramos, which only needs one win in the consolation manager to secure a top night place.

After Blaze was divided in his quarter -final fight for 15 seconds shortly before his quarter -finals, fled the rest of the path to the attack.

The boiler maker grabbed another escape point in the second period and began the third period at the top to delete Kasak’s driving advantage.

Blaze let Kasak escape and shot for his right leg and won the scramble to advance a match package takedown with 48 seconds.

After Blaze took over the 5-4 lead, Blaze successfully rode out of the clock and prevented the Nittany Löwe from escaping.

Blaze is Purdue’s first true second student who has become an all-American since Frank Laccone in 1995.

“It only brings a lot of confidence,” said Blaze after his victory. “Knowing that everything I did (my coaches and I) worked on some things for so long and never worked in my games, but I just stayed positive and stayed on the way that they had for me … I don’t concentrate on the big picture. I only concentrate on having fun and I myself. This is all that I can do at the end of the day.”

He pulls Northwesterns Trevor Chumbley (No. 20) in the semi -finals on Friday evening.

Ramos fell behind Spratley early after giving up a takedown and could not completely withdraw and fell into a 5-2 decision.

It was the last chance of the RedShirt senior in a national title, but he still has a shot to become Purdues first two-time all-Americans since Ben Wissel in 2005/06.

He will continue to wrestle in the consolation class to win a bronze medal.

Ramos will meet Trever Anderson (No. 22, North -Iowa) in the blood round on Friday evening. A victory would guarantee his second career -ncaa -Podium -finish.

Meeting IV starts on Friday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and streaming on ESPN+.
