Blood donors can win 0 by donating blood at South Bend Medical Foundation fundraisers in December

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – We’re all busier during the holidays, but South Bend Medical Foundation leaders hope you’ll take some time to donate blood.

Colleen Hahn, the blood donor recruitment manager at the South Bend Medical Foundation, told us they see a decline in their donations this time of year.

To encourage even more people to roll up their sleeves, the foundation is giving away at least one $500 prize each week to one lucky donor.

This promotion runs through the end of the month and rides are planned throughout Michigan.

Hahn said anyone who can give something is welcome. However, there is currently a particularly great need for O-positive blood.

Hahn said it only takes 45 minutes to give, but you never know whose life you might save.

“A few months ago we had a blood donor who donated about 66 gallons, came to the emergency room one day with a bleed and used 28 units of blood. He basically bled to death twice,” Hahn said. “So it saved his life. And he never thought that his donation could be something that he would receive, or that someone else’s donation could be something that he would receive.”
