UNITY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) – The body of Elizabeth Pollard, the missing 64-year-old woman who fell through a hole in the ground while searching for her cat in Unity Township, Pennsylvania, has been found, the Westmoreland County coroner said Friday with .

Pollard went missing around 5pm on Monday and there has been no crew since Tuesday dug, shored up and searched an abandoned coal mine behind Monday’s Restaurant on Marguerite Road.

While state police were hopeful she would be found alive, they told Pollard’s family Wednesday evening that the operation had entered a recovery phase.

“It’s just a matter of finding her and doing right by her family,” said Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Steve Limani.

Police are expected to provide an update later on Friday.

Crews feared the abandoned mine would collapse

On Thursday evening, search teams feared that the abandoned mine site could be in danger of collapsing.

“The goal is to remove the dirt and then come from the bottom up and extract the dirt. We’re going to take this dirt and put it in separate piles. We will have people investigating this dirt, looking through it, possibly if we could find a cell phone or something else that might be of significance,” Limani said.

Police said Thursday that the excavators had reached the spot where they thought Pollard was.
