Boeing aims to close “shadow factories”

Boeing admitted that his production could not keep up with its aircraft sales. However, the aircraft manufacturer aims to restore the JET production to the levels of fatal crashes that were achieved before the crises in 2018 and 2019 and last year of the mid-flight door connector.

To achieve this, the Wall Street Journal reported that Boeing wanted to empty the aircraft stored in its shadow factories. The company defines a shadow factory as a production line in which mechanics and engineers repair, maintain and update aircraft instead of building new ones.

Boeing uses shadow factories in Moses Lake and Everett, Washington, to work on its 737 Maxs or 787 Dreamliners. A year ago, the company estimated that it housed about 225 jets in shadow factories. It claims that this number has dropped to 115 by 2025.

According to reports, the Maxs mostly come from the global grounding, which followed the accidents. The 787s are waiting for checks to confirm that the aircraft parts receive a proper assembly after concerns regarding the production process.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the shadow factories often demand the most experienced workers from Boeing. In addition, revisions and inspections can sometimes take longer than the initial production.

This wish to wipe out the shadow factories for almost two months machine operator.

The Wall Street Journal reported that CEO Kelly Ortberg hopes to achieve a monthly production rate of 38 737 Maxs and to close the shadow facilities by the middle of the year. Early analyst estimates state that the company made 20 of the aircraft in January.

Bob Jordan, CEO of Southwest Airlines, has reportedly recognized progress at Boeing, but found that his company did not expect to receive the number of jets that was originally promised for 2025.
