Boil Water Notice for Ennis – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

The City of Ennis wants residents to boil their water after a water main break Sunday.

The boil water notice was issued after water pressure became too low due to a water main break, city officials say.

When water pressure drops, people are asked to boil water because the lower pressure in the pipes can allow contaminants such as harmful bacteria to enter the system through cracked pipes. Boiling the water kills the bacteria and disinfects the water. If the water is not disinfected, the bacteria could harm children, seniors and other people with weakened immune systems.

The boil water notice is intended to ensure the destruction of harmful bacteria that may have entered the water pipe if it was not fully pressurized. Water used for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil for two minutes before use.

You should also boil water that you use to wash your hands or face and brush your teeth.

The City of Ennis is distributing on Sunday afternoon at Fire Station No. 1, 1700 West Lake Bardwell Dr. Bottled water. Only one case of water is allowed in a car.

Officials are urging people to conserve as much water as possible as the city is actively working on this issue.

Cooking Notes

  • Use bottled or boiled water for drinking and for preparing and cooking food.
If bottled water is not available, bring the water to a boil for 1 minute (3 minutes for altitudes above 6500 feet). After boiling, allow the water to cool before using it.
  • Boil tap water, even if it is filtered (e.g. through a home water filter or a pitcher that filters water).
  • Do not use water from devices connected to your water pipe, such as: B. Ice and water from a refrigerator.
  • In many cases, you can use tap water and soap to wash your hands during a boil water advisory. Follow the instructions of your local health authorities.
  • Be careful not to swallow water when bathing or showering. Be careful when bathing babies and young children. Consider giving them a sponge bath to reduce the risk of them swallowing water.
  • If possible, use disposable plates, cups and utensils when advising on boiling water. Household dishwashers are generally safe to use if: the water reaches a final rinse temperature of at least 150 degrees Fahrenheit (66° Celsius) or the rinse water has a disinfection cycle.
  • To wash dishes by hand: Wash and rinse dishes as usual with hot water. In a separate basin, add 1 teaspoon of unscented liquid household bleach per quart of warm water. Soak the rinsed dishes in water for at least a minute. Allow the dishes to air dry completely before using them again.
  • Pets can get sick from the same germs as people or pass them on to people. Give your pets cooled mineral water or boiled water.
  • Boil tap water, even if it is filtered (e.g. through a home water filter or a pitcher that filters water).
  • Do not use water from devices connected to your water pipe, such as: B. Ice and water from a refrigerator.
