This ended an eight-game winning streak for the Bonnies, their longest since 2018.

HISTORY OF THE SERIES

La Salle leads 20-19
The teams met 39 times in a series that has historically been almost even.

The Bonnies had won five of their last six meetings before a home loss in 2022, and SBU fell to 6-10 all-time with a setback in late February at Tom Gola Arena in La Salle.

However, the Bonnies returned to the right side of the series by winning a wild Atlantic 10 second-round game last season. It was the third time the programs met in the Atlantic 10 tournament: The last time the teams met in the A-10 tournament was a decade ago, when the Bonnies lost 82-70 to La Salle in a second-round matchup at Barclays Center . Three years earlier, La Salle scored a double-overtime thriller at the Reilly Center.

ABOUT LA SALLE

  • La Salle is led by legendary head coach Fran Dunphy, a Philadelphia basketball institution for five decades. After starting coaching at Army as an assistant from 1971 to 1975 and then coaching at the high school for two seasons, he first moved to La Salle as an assistant in 1979. After a stint at American, he returned to the staff at La Salle from 1985 to 1988 before moving to Penn, where he was head coach from 1989 to 2006. He then successfully served as program director at Temple from 2006 to 2019 and took over the position at La Salle in 2022. Dunphy went 7-1 against the Bonnies at Temple and is 2-1 against SBU over the past two seasons, leading the Explorers.
  • Saturday’s game is a rematch of an entertaining Atlantic 10 second-round contest last year in Brooklyn. The Bonnies held the Explorers to 75-73 when an attempt by La Salle’s Daeshon Shepherd for a put-back dunk that would have tied the game failed as time expired. Noel Brown scored 11 points off the bench in the win.
  • Offensively, the Explorers rank fifth in the A-10 this season with 77.4 ppg, but just 13Th on the defensive side by allowing over 74 points per contest. They are dangerous in the open court, rank second in the league in fastbreak points (14/game) and are strong on the boards with a +4.1 rebound margin, good for fifth in the conference.
  • Corey McKeithan, a graduate transfer guard from Rider, ranks seventh in the A-10 and top 100 nationally with 17.3 ppg, while Daeshon Shepherd (11.1 ppg) and Jahlil White (10.3 ppg) also do so achieve threats. Demetrius Lilley leads the team on the glass with over seven rebounds per game.
  • La Salle is seeking its first A-10 win after losing its opener in Dayton (84-70) and falling at home to Loyola Chicago (79-68).
