Brendan Allen corrected himself: “I only have his number”

Anthony Hernandez expects to defeat Brendan Allen again in his rematch.

Hernandez (13-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and Allen (24-6 MMA, 12-3 UFC) return the favor at a UFC Fight Night event on February 22nd. In their first fight, which took place in January 2018, Hernandez defeated Allen via unanimous decision to capture the vacant LFA middleweight title.

Hernandez, who is currently on a six-fight winning streak – including a Performance of the Night TKO of Michel Pereira – sees a fight against Allen as the right next step and hopes it ends up being another five-round fight.

“It made sense,” Hernandez told Inside Fighting. “He called me out and said, ‘Okay, if you fucking want to, leave it behind.’ It’s the perfect opportunity because obviously he’s ahead of me. He’s healthy and won and stuff, and like the kid is doing so much better. I just think I have his number.”

Despite winning their first meeting, Hernandez said he wasn’t as prepared as he wanted to be.

“I remember the first fight sucked – I’m not going to lie,” Hernandez said. “It was very difficult, but I was also injured and didn’t train for this fight. I cautiously picked it up from the couch. It is what it is. I still won, so it worked. But I’m thrilled to be healthy for this fight.

“I’m actually going to have a good camp and now I understand the game. I got this shit figured out, so now it’s just a matter of going out there and doing what I should have done the first time. The first time was a chance that I couldn’t take advantage of because I won it, and I got a chance at the Contender Series.”
