Brewers option Caleb Durbin and Tyler Black to small leagues

Mesa, ariz. – A few prospects of Milwaukee Brewers with the opening day will not open the season in New York, but in Nashville.

The infields Tyler Black and Caleb Durbin were informed that they had not made the Brewers list to open the season and, after the game on Saturday afternoon, selected athletics for the AAA class.

Durbin received a longer look this spring, his first with Milwaukee, after he was purchased in the trade with the New York Yankees in Devin Williams trade. He has a team high 59 record appearances and beats .250 with an ops .726 ops, two Homer and seven stolen bases.

While Durbin showed a certain promise with the bat and the ability to create chaos on the base paths, his defense never improved enough, especially on the third basis. With a right -handed bat for the train on the hot corner next to Oliver Dunn, defense will be of the utmost importance.

“I’m still very high in him. I am now higher for him than before the camp,” said manager Pat Murphy. “I just love the child, love the way he plays. He will help us win games. He is a winning player. You can’t say enough about him.”

The move to Black option is a surprising surprise. The 24-year-old first Baseman went more than he got out, but only beat 0.152 with an operating room of 0.606, which occurred on Saturday.

The movements bring Jake Bauer into an even more interesting position when it comes to a squad square. The first Baseman set his strong spring with a solo home in the fourth inning on Saturday. It was Bauer’s third long ball of spring training.

At the beginning of the camp there was a fixed competition for the backup job of Rhys Hoskins with Mark Canha and Black in the mix next to Bauer. But the former is traded on Kansas City on Friday and the latter was equipped on Saturday, Bauer remains firmly in the mix.

However, there is a wrinkle.

The Bauer Treaty contains an upward mobility clause, which is also referred to as an assignment clause. With the clause, 29 other clubs can indicate whether they are ready to give farmers a squad square. If one of them says yes, the brewers have to call him or exchange them.

“We are pretty close,” said Murphy about the decision.

This spring, Bauer has .278 with and an OPS .989. Above all, he drastically contained on strikeouts and only hit 40 record appearances in the Cactus League Play seven times. This is a strike rate of 17.5%, compared to 34.1% a year ago and 29.2% in his career.

Manny Margot, who had decided on Saturday afternoon if he didn’t do the team and 13 players for healthy position in the camp left 13 player plays for the available position on the roster.

Nevertheless, there is the possibility of an external supplement to the roster, since veterans for minor League deals in the league will exercise their contract opt-outs at the weekend.

The brewers also advise Rule 5, Connor Thomas, the opening squad. Thomas had a strong performance in the camp after being picked from the Cardinals organization in December and will provide the brewer a length from the gates. The left -hander must be violated all season on the active list of active squads or the MLB, otherwise it must be accepted. If Thomas eliminates exceptional regulations, he could choose a free agency instead of being brought back St. Louis because he was already extraordinary in his career.

When will José Quintana be ready?

José Quintana’s delayed structure continued on Saturday with three efficient innings, in which he allowed a Homerun with two runs, but had to throw a total of 37 parking spaces after additional work in the Bullpen in the 4: 3 athletics in the Hohokam Park.

The left -hander went on his second excursion by Cactus League. Next, a game with Minor League comes on Thursday, during the Big League Club in New York.

Then?

“Look at (Thursday),” said Quintana. “We planned to get at least five ups, but let’s see how I feel like it afterwards.”

Quintana stated that in the second series of the season for Milwaukee, he could “probably” record, but the current signs seem to point out that Quintana will come through five inners in a game with minor League before returning. In this schedule, Quintana would open the brewery series in Colorado on April 8th.

“I feel in a really great form,” said Quintana. “I feel in a really good position. It is time to get in more situations to create these situations.”
