Are bridal makeup attempts worth it?

Ashita Rawat, a 29-year-old publicist who will tie the knot in December, went through two rounds of negotiations but found it wasn’t entirely worth it. “The time between your makeup test and your wedding day can bring significant changes to the health of your skin. My skin had changed drastically between my first and second attempt. “I realized that makeup can react differently to our skin after treatments and a skincare routine, and that what works on the day we test it may not work on the actual day.” However, different brides may have different requirements and must decide on the options that work best for them.
Make-up artist Mausam Gandhi, who also specializes in this Bridal makeup says: “Testing is primarily done by brides who have had bad experiences with their appearance in the past and are not confident. Additionally, for some brides who suffer from certain skin concerns, a test will help provide clarity on whether or not certain spots can be covered so they know what to expect. Some brides also have a vision and want to check at the trial appointment whether or not the make-up artist can bring that vision to life.”
“A makeup trial is beneficial for both the bride and her makeup artist,” says Kanikka Gauraav Tandon, bridal makeup artist. “Not only does it allow the bride to communicate her expectations, but it also helps the makeup expert understand her needs, her skin type, the type of products she wants, and her overall vision.” She adds, “Makeup trials help “It also helps save time on the main day that could otherwise be wasted experimenting with different looks before the main look is finalized.” It reduces stress and panic on the wedding day.”

The average price for a trial is between Rs 10,000 and Rs 45,000 depending on the makeup artist and their expertise

WEAR THE RIGHT OUTFIT FOR THE TRIALS

  • Brides have to wear a heavy outfit and jewelry. When trying out your casual outfits, it can be difficult to get clarity about your look
  • If you haven’t purchased your wedding outfit yet, carry dresses in similar colors that you plan to wear at the wedding
  • Blow-drying your hair before the test can also help you understand your hairstyle better

People who get makeup done regularly can avoid trying completely. Especially if you have worked with the makeup artist before, they will definitely know how to make you look exactly the way you want

THINGS TO DO

  • Take the test shots at least four to six weeks before the wedding so that you can try out different looks, manage any skin reactions, and make any necessary changes
  • Any new product should be patch tested at least 48 hours prior to testing. This helps with early detection of possible allergies
  • Set your budget so that your makeup expert can offer you the looks within the set range
  • Shortlist a few references and take them with you in your experiments
  • Consider the weather conditions on your wedding day and plan makeup accordingly
  • Also choose the look and pay attention to what works during the day and at night
  • Inform your make-up artist about your outfit and choice of accessories

SKIN CARE AFTER TESTS

  • Don’t use new skin care or cosmetic products right away
  • To remove product residue, use a gentle, sulfate- and fragrance-free cleanser
  • Apply a facial mist or moisturizing toner to rebalance the skin’s pH
  • Use a mild, non-comedogenic moisturizer
  • Use a soothing serum with niacinamide or hyaluronic acid to relieve redness or dryness
  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect skin from UV rays, especially if trying has caused peeling or irritation
  • Aloe vera gel can also be applied to relieve inflammation
  • Stay hydrated

Repeatedly applying and removing makeup during testing can strip the skin of its natural oils, causing dryness or increased sensitivity. Additionally, using shared makeup tools without proper disinfection can lead to infections. Therefore, it is crucial for brides to choose an experienced makeup artist who uses high-quality, hypoallergenic materials
