Bridget Moynahan says Sex and the City fans have stopped hating Natasha as they have “matured with the show”.

Moynahan’s Natasha Naginsky was once considered an annoying obstacle that prevented Carrie and Big from getting together. Now it looks more complicated.

Bridget Moynahan finally sees the wisdom behind the old adage that you either die a villain or live long enough to become a hero.

“Over the years, people have discovered that they hated Natasha when they first saw it,” Moynahan recently reflected on her Sex and the city Character Natasha Naginsky to Swooon. But “as they got older, they said, ‘We were all Carrie back then, but we should have supported Natasha.'”

Moynahan’s character found himself on the losing side of a pivotal love triangle between John “Mr. Big” Preston (Chris Noth) and Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker). But during the show’s first season, Moynahan felt that fans wanted Big and Carrie to get together so badly that her character was viewed as a mere obstacle and her feelings were ignored. “It’s just interesting that the fans have grown and matured with the show,” Moynahan continued. “I think the great thing about the show coming back in a new form is that it has matured and now has a whole new group of fans coming in and it’s just nice to see it continue to grow.”

Natasha was introduced in the second season of Sex and the city as Big’s fiancée. Big and Carrie had an on-again, off-again relationship, or what the kids now call a situational relationship, throughout the first season. When Big shows up in Season 2 engaged to a woman he’s only been dating for a few months – a woman with the poise and refinement she feels Carrie lacks – Carrie’s self-worth takes a major hit.

In the middle of the third season, Carrie and Big resume their relationship, although they both feel committed to other people. Natasha eventually spots Carrie in her apartment with Big, chases her away and falls down the stairs, breaking her teeth. The moment is humiliating for everyone involved, but Moynahan believes that at the time, Natasha was seen as solely responsible for the crime of preventing the union of a fan-favorite couple.

“Carrie was wrong,” she told Swooon. But “that’s how Big was!” Hello!”
