Broncos’ Levi Wallace is prepared in case CB Riley Moss can’t play on Monday

No matter how healthy a team stays, the NFL season will always be testing at some point.

The Broncos are feeling that now, at least in part.

One place where Denver is confident in its strength: cornerback.

When Riley Moss injured his knee in Las Vegas on Sunday, experienced Levi Wallace stepped in and played solidly.

“That’s been the standard since I’ve been here,” Wallace told the Post this week. “We have a lot of older players, but the younger ones can also play. You just don’t always get the opportunity, but I think we have a lot of talent on this team and we have a lot of guys that know how to play the game the right way.

“Nobody ever panics when someone has to go in and play.”

Head coach Sean Payton said Moss injured his MCL and that Denver had considered bringing him back into the game on Sunday, but he had not practiced on Friday or this week, affecting his status for Monday night’s game against Cleveland at least questions.

Wallace and Damarri Mathis each also saw time in sub-packages. If Moss is unable to play Monday night, that could mean the first gameday activation for fifth-round rookie Kris Abrams-Draine.

“He brings the right attitude,” Wallace said. “It’s always a challenge to overcome your first year in the league. It’s an especially long year after a long college season and then straight to the Senior Bowl and draft prep. He handled it really well. He’s really mature. He asks the right questions and is a good player.”

Surtain is excited to face Jeudy. Former Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy never minced his words.

He didn’t do that on Friday when he discussed his tenure in Denver and his desire to be traded after the 2023 season.

“Just knowing what kind of player I am, I wasn’t happy with the way they used me,” Jeudy told reporters in Cleveland. “I felt like I could do a lot more than they expected of me. I felt restricted. So I felt like I needed to go somewhere else to really show what I was about.”

Jeudy, of course, was traded back in March.

Broncos All-Pro cornerback Pat Surtain II could travel with Jeudy on Monday night. The pair coached against each other for three seasons, played together in college at Alabama and have been competing in 7-on-7 tournaments in South Florida since “when we were cheering,” Surtain said Friday.

“That was his former team, so he’ll have a lot of juice flowing,” Surtain said. “That’s exactly the type of player he is. He is very competitive. He will try to do it and I’m looking forward to the duel. It’s going to be a great match. I already know the type of person he is, his competitive structure. He’ll be ready.”

Broncos lose Alexander. The Broncos had two veteran inside linebackers on their practice squad last week. Now they don’t have any.

Denver promoted inside linebacker Zach Cunningham to the 53-man roster on Wednesday and then lost Kwon Alexander to Detroit on Friday, a source confirmed to The Post.
