Man who raped and killed woman held next to toddler

Meerut: A man wanted in connection with the rape and murder of a woman – he had left the victim’s body next to her crying toddler – was arrested by police in Bulandshahr after a brief encounter on Thursday evening. The defendant, identified as Monty KumarThe 30-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg in the collision, police said on Friday.
SP (City) Shankar Prasad said, “This all happened when Monty was attending a court hearing in a murder case against him in Haridwar last week. On his way back, he met the victim, a woman from Uttarakhand (35), who had after an argument with her husband, Monty allegedly left her with the promise of a job and instead took her to his village in Bulandshahr. There he raped and murdered her, leaving her three-year-old son crying in his body on November 24.
The woman’s body was found by locals on November 25 near a cow shed in Kurli village on Gulaothi-Sikandrabad road in Bulandshahr, about 20 km from NH-9, a stretch notorious as a “dumping ground” for murder victims .
After the incident, Gulaothi SHO Sunita Malik said, “The woman’s face was disfigured, suggesting a violent end.” Later, the autopsy confirmed that the woman had been strangled and her face was smashed several times to obscure her identity.
SP Prasad added, “During investigation, we identified a vehicle related to the case. Shortly afterwards we spotted the suspect on a bicycle and tried to intercept him. The accused shot at the police and in retaliation he was arrested injured.”
Sikandrabad district officer Poornima Singh said, “After the body was discovered, a case was lodged against an unidentified person under BNS Section 103 (murder). However, during interrogation on Friday, the suspect confessed to raping the woman before murdering her. Now.” The charge of rape is listed in the indictment.”
The victim’s toddler was handed over to the Child Protection Committee for care, police said.
