Bucky McMillan committed championships while taking over Texas A&M

College Station, Texas – The Bucky McMillan -ära gave on Monday in Texas A&M with a high promise of the trainer who raised Samford basketball for new Heights.

“For me to leave this place, it would only be for a place where I know that I could not only win championships, but also a great place with great people,” said McMillan at his introductory press conference in the Reed Arena of A&M. “So I am here – we will win championships here.”

The men’s basketball team of the Texas A&M men has never been turned into the elite night of the NCAA tournament. The A&M Women won a national title in 2011 under coach Gary Blair.

The Aggies commissioned the high -ranking McMillan (41) the high -quality McMillan to replace Buzz Williams, who left A&M for Maryland on April 1.

A&M has no longer been considered to be disappointing for A&M fans under coach Billy Kennedy since 2018 – why Williams’ tenure for A&M fans.

McMillan, a native of Alabaman who has never trained in Texas and only visited the college station once, hired two former assistants at A&M under Kennedy: Mitch Cole, who also supported McMillan near Samford, and former Stephen F. Austin State head coach Kyle Keller, who was added in January after 1: 7 start in January Southland Conference was.

McMillan led Samford to the NCAA tournament a year ago, and the Bulldogs lost almost 93-89 against Kansas in the opening round. McMillan, who was over five seasons in Samford in Birmingham, Alabama, 99-52, previously trained the Mountain Brook High School near Birmingham with five state titles in Alabama’s highest high school classification.

“I spoke to many people about basketball,” said Trev Alberts, sports director of A&M, who has made his best known attitude since his arrival in the college station a little more than a year ago. “And the thing with Bucky McMillan, who performed again and again, was: ‘This is one of the elite that arises in College basketball.’ … he thinks differently – he trains outside the plate.

This style, which is called “Bucky Ball” in McMillans High School Coaching Days for the first time, is raging in the offensive and defense. McMillan approved a five -year contract with A&M, said sources ESPN, but the exact contract numbers were not available on Monday.

“When we bring recruits to play and this place is filled out … and we run the nation in the goal and it is going crazy.

This season, the Bulldogs took the 13th place with 82.9 points per game nationally and took the top 10 in 3-herself and tried (356 out of 978 for 36.4%). The 16.1 sales of Samford defense, which were forced per game, took fourth place in fourth place.

“Every trainer who wins more than 330 games as a high school coach with several state championships is worth paying attention to attention,” said Mark Welsh, President of Texas A&M. “Every trainer who has had in the past five years at Samford University that has had in a tough basketball conference is worth paying attention to it in the past five years.

“And everyone who attracts the number of visitors as they have participated in every event location in which they participated is worth paying attention to this.”

A season ago, Samford won 29 games for school record and for the first time in the program history swept the regular seasonal and tournament title of the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs in 2024 also won 17 games in a row and were 18: 0 at home. This season Samford finished 22-11 and lost in the first round of the national invitation tournament in George Mason.

In his last season, Williams trained an experienced team at A&M (23-11) and based on expired authorization and the transfer portal he inherited McMillan, a single scholarship player in the newcomer Chris McDermott, who played economically in his first season.

“We have to go to work immediately,” said McMillan about his recruitment at A&M. “We play a unique style, very high and quickly. We love to recruit this system, but we cannot do this system with four players. So we have to bring players on board and we have to bring the players here quickly.”
