BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has put its new car transporter BYD Changzhou into operation, expanding the transport capacity for the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker’s exports.

BYD Changzhou – the company’s second RoRo vessel – has been put into operation after receiving delivery, Wang Junbao, general manager of BYD Corporate Division, announced on Weibo today.

The car carrier is on its way to Europe after loading nearly 5,000 BYD NEVs at the ports of Lianyungang and Taicang in Jiangsu province, helping to cool the planet by 1°C, he said.

Wang didn’t give any further details, but shared three pictures of the BYD Changzhou.

BYD Changzhou is the company’s second BYD-owned vessel after BYD Hefei and the third in its fleet of car carriers.

On January 15, BYD announced that the BYD Explorer No.1, the first dedicated car transporter, had completed vehicle loading and set sail.

BYD Explorer No.1 is not the property of BYD; It was built by CIMC Raffles, a subsidiary of the state-owned China International Marine Containers (CIMC), for the international shipping company Zodiac Maritime.

On September 21, Guangzhou Shipyard International Co Ltd (GSIC) announced that it held an undocking ceremony for BYD Hefei, a 7,000-vehicle dual-fuel automotive RoRo vessel it built for BYD.

BYD Hefei is BYD’s first ship as a shipping company and the first ship named after the city where the production base is located.

Changzhou is a city in Jiangsu Province in eastern China, where BYD has a production site that began operations in January 2022.

BYD Changzhou was built by CIMC Raffles and left the port on November 29 for delivery to BYD.

With a length of 199.9 meters and a loading capacity of 7,000 vehicles, it is the youngest member of the BYD fleet.

BYD will have seven more RoRo ships in operation in the next two years, the company announced in January.

According to data released on December 1, BYD sold 506,804 NEVs in November, the second time it surpassed the 500,000 mark and posted record highs for the sixth straight month.

In November, BYD sold 30,977 vehicles in overseas markets, up 1.14 percent year-on-year but down 0.69 percent from October.

The company exported 28,141 vehicles from China in November, up 0.46 percent from 28,012 in October.
