BYU Football will finish the 2024 season in the final rankings

PROVO, Utah – The 2024 season ends with another AP Top 25 finish for BYU football.

After Monday night’s national championship game, in which Ohio State defeated Notre Dame 34-23 in Atlanta, the Associated Press released its final 2024 rankings.

BYU football landed at No. 13 in the top 25

BYU landed at No. 13, a four-spot jump after BYU beat Colorado 36-14 in the 2024 Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.

The interesting thing about BYU’s No. 13 ranking is that it is one spot behind SMU. BYU beat SMU back in September in Dallas.

This is the third season under head coach Kalani Sitake that BYU has finished a season ranked in the AP Top 25. The 13th place finish is Sitake’s second-highest finish, trailing only 11th place in 2020.

The final ranking for the 2024 season gives BYU football its 20th season ranking in the final AP Top 25.

BYU football was 11-2 entering the 2024 season and in first place in the Big 12 Conference. However, tiebreakers kept the Cougars out of the Big 12 Championship Game.

In 2024, BYU had one of the best defenses and special teams in college football. BYU’s offense was led by quarterback Jake Retzlaff, who rushed for 2,947 yards and 20 touchdowns.

BYU finished the 2024 season with two wins over top-25 teams (SMU, No. 12; Colorado, No. 25).
