Caldwell turkey trots in support of local organizations

CALDWELL, Idaho – While many are looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner, others are getting up early to make a turkey trot. This year, Caldwell hosted his turkey trot to support two local nonprofits – Boise Rescue Mission and Camp Rainbow Gold.

  • Many runners brought food donations or donated to Camp Rainbow Gold.
  • Some families have done this trot before, but others have decided to make it a new tradition.

On a celebratory day when many focus on dinner, others rise early to run a 5K turkey in support of their favorite local organizations.

“This run is really about giving back to the community and doing something great on Thanksgiving Day,” said Megan Lacy, owner of Fleet Feet Treasure Valley.

Megan Lacy, owner of Fleet Feet Treasure Valley, tells me that even on a cold day, it means a lot when people come out to support.

“We actually give a lot back to the Boise Rescue Mission and Camp Rainbow Gold,” Lacy said.

While others brought food donations, many also donated to Camp Rainbow Gold.

What made these people wake up early on Thanksgiving Day to run a 5K?

“To train the body, run the trot, eat a lot of turkey,” Trot Runners said.

“We are looking forward to being together as a family and this is something new for us. “We’ve never done this before, but a friend invited us, so we think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Caldwell runner Jessica Bates.

“We really wanted to do a 5K for Thanksgiving this year and thought it would be fun to dress up as turkeys,” said Caldwell trotting runner Jacie Monice.

When the runners reached their destinations, many looked forward to their favorite dish.

“I can definitely handle some ham,” said Caldwell draftsman Emmit Bates

“Probably the pumpkin pie,” said Caldwell drainer Darian Bates

“Well, mac and cheese is definitely a great Thanksgiving side dish,” Monice said
