Car crashes into Christmas market and injures several people

As someone who previously lived in a small town with an internationally recognized Christmas market, I can understand why someone would want to throw their car through the sheds and turn it into firewood.

In Chipping Sodbury, a town name that could only come from the English Westcountry, a man did just that. As he exited the parking space, the elderly driver apparently lost control and collided his car with several people.

The man was believed to be around 80 years old. He finally had enough mulled wine to take his frustration with the overpriced jewelry into his own hands. He managed to bring down seven people in the low-speed collision. However, no one was critically injured by the car at the Christmas market.

A local police spokesman issued a statement. “We would like to reassure people that despite the extensive emergency response, no one is currently considered to be suffering from life-threatening or life-changing injuries. Two small children, including a baby, were taken to hospital.” Here they are receiving excellent care and will be ready for more festivities in no time.

Car or not, the Christmas market must go on

Despite this incident, the Christmas market shows no signs of slowing down. A statement on Chipping Sodbury’s Facebook page provided clarity. “As many of you know, there has been an incident up on the High Street. The police have advised us not to cancel today’s event, so down the rest of the High Street from Hobbs House Bakery towards Broad Street and Horse Street.” is still open. Nothing will stop the celebrants from celebrating.

The troops at Chipping Sodnbury clearly didn’t have much to do on this fine winter morning. In response to the minor car accident, five ambulances, a rescue plane and several other emergency personnel arrived at the Christmas market. This overwhelming response was absolutely necessary.

Of course, Christmas markets are supposed to be a time of celebration and you spend $25 on a cold hot dog. No one expects to get hit by a car while buying overpriced jewelry. Luckily, no one was seriously injured in this small incident. Hopefully the driver of the car will have to take another test before getting behind the wheel.
