Carlos Sainz 'father was still upset, son rejected Audi's "great offer"

Carlos Sainz has revealed that his father is still disappointed that he decided to reject Audi for F1 2025.

The four-time Grand Prix winner Sainz opted for Williams after losing his Ferrari seat against the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. However, the Spaniard assumed that he had offers from the soon future Audi team and Alpine.

Sainz confirmed that he had a “great offer” from the current clean squad and says, his two-time world champion father wanted him to join the German manufacturer. Carlos Sainz SR won his fourth Dakar rally with Audi last year.

“My father, Carlos, is still disappointed that a few months ago I didn’t make Audi’s great offer,” Sainz told Blick.

“After my dream of moving to Red Bull or Mercedes, I had to choose between Audi, Alpine and Williams.

“After visiting the factories and led discussions, my gut feeling immediately told me – go to Williams. You want a better future. And when my heart said yes, the decision was made.

“I hope that my father, who had great times with Audi, will soon be happy that I chose Williams.”

Sainz was supported by Williams’ positive start

Williams had a strong pre-season test in Bahrain and was taken a step forward compared to the previous year.

Before the Australian Grand Prix at the weekend at the weekend, Sainz insisted that he was encouraged by his first impression of the Grove -based outfit.

“It was definitely a positive beginning. As I said many times now, the positive start in Abu Dhabi test began, ”he said.

“The car didn’t disappoint me either. It was a good test in Abu Dhabi and we had a strong winter in development. We tried to get up to date this year and we had a positive test.
